Baby Annabelle is Born!

Baby Annabelle born August 2nd, 2007 at half past midnight. Delivery was swift due to an unexpected turn. After 15 hours of contractions and on the 2nd visit to St Mike's, Grace is admitted to the ward. The cervix is 4cm dilated and the contractions have become strong enough that the Epidural is much appreciated.

At 12am another examination is performed and the doctor notes the dilation is still 4-5cm and contractions increasing in frequency and intensity. The baby's position in the tummy also does not feel right and an ultra sound was used to confirm the suspicion. After the quick check, the doctor's intuition was correct. The baby is in breech position with the head in an upright rather than upside down. A decision is quickly made to perform a C-section before the baby's position gets pushed lower from the contractions. The rush to the operating room begins. Grace is pushed over by the doctors and Grandmom is asked to wait patiently in another room while Dad follows Grace to the OR area. The doctors and nurses are all in a frenzy to prepare for the sudden operation and Dad is asked to wait outside due to the urgency of the situation.

The Doctors make a judgement call to skip the anaesthesia because it would delay the operation that needs to happen immediately to prevent baby from being pushed out. Grace bravely goes through the operation and luckily the epidural is able to reduce some of the pain. After what might seem like the longest 5 mins ever, a baby's cry is heard and Dad is called in to comfort Mom. Our first glimpse of baby Annabelle is of her being cleaned and weighed. Subsequently, Dad gets to hold Annabelle in front of Mommy as the Doctors quickly close the inscissions.

The operation is a full success and Mom is delivered to a patient room.

At 2am Mommy and Baby Annabelle has her first feeding. Then both rest for the night .
